Catalan Federation of Historic Vehicles
Approval of the preliminary report to introduce changes in the Tax on CO₂ emissions of classic vehicles
The Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia dated May 19, 2020 has given a blow to our collective of classic vehicles, after the negotiations carried out with the FCVH.
The government has given the green light to the preliminary report to modify the climate change law, in relation to the tax on CO₂ emissions from mechanical traction vehicles.
In the event that it affects us, they intend to regulate a tax benefit for cars, vans and motorcycles that are considered by the federations as 'classic', in accordance with European and international standards, but which do not have historical registration.
They have agreed to establish some type of tax benefit for vehicles considered 'classic', similar to that which exists for those who already have a historic vehicle registration, in accordance with article 41.5 of Law 16/2017 of August 1, which exempt from paying the tax.
The intention of this new measure to reduce the tax burden on 'classic' vehicles is to contribute to the preservation of the automobile heritage.
In Catalonia, there are an estimated 10,000 vehicles with these characteristics.
The text of the public report will soon be exposed in public consultation and will be available for 30 days on the Participa.gencat.cat portal of the Generalitat.
We hope to continue the process, with the establishment of the FCVH regulation together with Gencat and that it will end up being approved in the Parliament of Catalonia soon.
